Connectivity & Access
Vikram Udyogpuri (Ujjain) Connectivity: Airports, Highways, Rail & Freight Links
Vikram Udyogpuri, developed by DMIC Vikram Udyogpuri Limited (DMICVUL) at village Narwar between Ujjain and Dewas, relies mainly on State Highway 18, the Ujjain-Dewas rail line and Indore's Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport for external access — with several road and rail upgrades now underway ahead of Simhastha 2028.

| Site location | Village Narwar, ~8 km from Ujjain, ~12 km from Dewas |
|---|---|
| Nearest airport | Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, Indore — about 55 km / 1–1.5 hr drive |
| Adjacent highway | State Highway 18 (Ujjain–Dewas road) |
| Adjacent rail line | Ujjain–Dewas section (Indore–Dewas–Ujjain line), now doubled & electrified |
| Regional highway link | NH-52 (Indore–Bhopal–Delhi/Agra corridor) via Indore, ~1 hr away |
| Freight corridor status | Western DFC (Dadri–JNPT) does not pass through Ujjain district; ~93% complete nationally as of Jan 2026 |

Where Vikram Udyogpuri sits
The project is located in Narwar village, 8 km from Ujjain and 12 km from Dewas, and spans 442.3 hectares (1,096 acres), positioned along State Highway 18 (SH-18) within the DMIC region. Developed over roughly 1,100 acres, the Integrated Industrial Township is a key DMIC project driving the Pithampur–Dhar–Mhow Investment Region, and is strategically located near SH-18 and the Ujjain-Dewas railway line. This dual road-and-rail frontage is the backbone of the site's connectivity — there is no expressway, port or dedicated freight corridor running directly through the township.
Airports
Ujjain itself has no scheduled commercial airport. The nearest functioning gateway is Indore's airport, roughly an hour's drive away.
- Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, Indore (operational): This is the closest airport to Ujjain, located about 55 km away, reachable by a 1–1.5 hour road journey. It handled around 4.2 million passengers in 2025-26 and caters to around 21 domestic and 1 international destination.
- Airport expansion (under construction): A new larger terminal (T3) is planned adjoining Terminal-2, along with an airport hotel and convention centre, with a Multi-Level Car Parking planned to make way for it.
- Indore Metro link to airport (under construction): An underground metro station of the Indore Metro yellow line is being built beside Terminal 2.
- Ujjain–Indore Vande Metro (proposed): An intercity Vande Metro service between Ujjain and Indore, terminating at the airport, is planned in view of Simhastha 2028.
- New greenfield airport near Chapda (approved, pre-construction): A new airport planned to become India's largest greenfield airport near Chapda town, about 40 km from Indore, has been approved by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to handle future overflow traffic.
- Possible Ujjain airstrip redevelopment (proposed): An alternate plan to redevelop the existing Ujjain airstrip has also been put forward ahead of the 2028 Simhastha.
None of these airport works are on the Vikram Udyogpuri site itself; they affect travel time to/from the township via Indore.
Expressways and highways
There is currently no dedicated expressway serving Vikram Udyogpuri. Access runs through a state highway feeding into the Indore–Delhi national highway network.
- SH-18, Ujjain–Dewas road (operational): the township's site frontage; it lies near SH-18 and the Ujjain-Dewas railway line.
- NH-52 / Kushabhau Thakre Marg (MR-10), Indore (operational): This corridor provides a vital northern linkage to National Highway 52 (NH52), which connects Indore to cities including Bhopal, Kota, Jaipur, and Delhi. It intersects NH-52, designated as part of Asian Highway 47, providing access from the Mumbai-Delhi highway corridor, and in the south it integrates with MP State Highway 27, offering routes to Ujjain and Dewas.
- Indore–Ujjain road six-laning (under construction/phased): MP's road development agency has proposed adding two extra lanes to the Indore-Ujjain state highway to make it a six-lane road ahead of Simhastha 2028, with work proceeding in sections from Aurobindo Hospital to Harifata, with encroachments already removed in rural stretches and construction proceeding in phases.
- New Hatod–Simhastha Bypass greenfield road (DPR/pre-construction, announced Jan 2025): The state government has announced a new road connecting the Hatod area of Indore to the Simhastha Bypass in Ujjain, a four-lane greenfield road roughly 48 km long costing about ₹1,370 crore, requiring over 350 hectares of land. A Detailed Project Report is being prepared for submission for approval, after which land acquisition and construction will begin.
- Other Simhastha-linked highway works (sanctioned, April 2025): The state is also progressing the Badnawar–Thandla road and the Ujjain–Jhalawar road, alongside a six-lane bypass in Indore, following sanctions announced by the Union road transport minister.
Rail links
The township sits directly on the Ujjain–Dewas rail corridor, one of the busier feeder lines into Ujjain Junction.
- Ujjain–Dewas section, part of Indore–Dewas–Ujjain line (operational, upgraded 2023): This line was a single-track electrified railway undergoing doubling; the doubling work from Ujjain Junction via Karchha, Dewas Junction and Barlai has been completed and in operation since late February 2023.
- Ujjain Junction (operational): Ujjain Junction is an A-category station of the Western Railway Zone with 8 platforms, and connects west to Ratlam Junction, north to Nagda Junction, east to Maksi and Bhopal Junctions, and south to Indore Junction and Dewas Junction.
- Electrification (completed): The Ujjain route was electrified in 1992, and the Ujjain-Indore route and Indore Junction were electrified in 2011.
These are conventional Indian Railways passenger/freight lines, not a dedicated freight corridor — there is no DFC alignment through Ujjain district.
Dedicated freight corridors and ports
Vikram Udyogpuri is not on any Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) alignment, and Madhya Pradesh has no seaport. The relevant national freight backbone is the Western DFC, which runs well to the west of Ujjain.
- Western DFC, Dadri–JNPT (nearing completion nationally): The Western DFC runs from Dadri near Delhi via Rewari, Narnaul, Sri Madhopur, Reengus, Phulera and Marwar Junction in Rajasthan, then Palanpur, Sabarmati, Vadodara and Gujarat before terminating at JNPT in Maharashtra — a route that bypasses Madhya Pradesh entirely. As of around January 2026, the 1,506 km corridor's overall physical progress stood at about 93 per cent, with full rail connectivity to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) targeted by 31 March 2026.
- Nearest port access: Exporters at Vikram Udyogpuri currently rely on conventional rail/road movement to Gujarat's ports (notably JNPT and Gujarat coastal terminals) rather than any DFC or dedicated port-rail link originating at the site.
Metro and rapid-transit proposals
There is no metro or Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) planned for Ujjain city or the Vikram Udyogpuri site itself. The nearest urban rail transit development is in Indore.
- Indore Metro (under construction): An underground station of the Indore Metro yellow line is being built beside Terminal 2 of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport.
- Ujjain–Indore Vande Metro (proposed): An intercity Vande Metro service between Ujjain and Indore terminating at the airport is planned in view of Simhastha 2028.
Investors should treat this as an inter-city commuter rail proposal rather than a dedicated RRTS corridor for the industrial township.
Internal infrastructure at the township
Vikram Udyogpuri is strategically located near SH-18 and the Ujjain-Dewas railway line, and features infrastructure including roads, power, water, sewage treatment plants and solid waste systems. Land allotment inside the site continues alongside these trunk works: a total of 67 plots covering 519 acres had been allotted with AMUL as anchor investor, with 2 acres of industrial land and 36 acres of commercial/residential/other-use land readily available for allotment as per the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation's late-2025 status update. Separately, 360 acres of gross area has been allotted to the Government of Madhya Pradesh for a Medical Device Park.
On the ground, AMUL operates as the anchor investor with 12 operational units and 16-plus units under construction, giving a sense of how much of the internal road/utility grid is already carrying live industrial traffic versus still being built out.
