What Was Announced

Starting from Sarai Kale Khan in New Delhi, the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar corridor will pass through Munirka, Aerocity, Gurugram, and Bawal, then reach Khairthal and Alwar via SNB. Simultaneously, another section extending from SNB will be developed up to Sotanala through Neemrana and Behror.

Officials from the Rajasthan Chief Minister's Office announced the development on 19 May 2026, confirming Rajasthan's formal inclusion in the Namo Bharat network following inter-state consensus.

Who Decided

Following a consensus between the governments of Rajasthan and Haryana, Rajasthan is now set to become part of the 'Namo Bharat' network. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) oversees the project implementation. The Government of Rajasthan approved the project in June 2019, and the Government of Haryana approved it in February 2019.

Network Specifications

The proposed network will span 196 kilometres and include 22 major stations, significantly strengthening regional connectivity. In Rajasthan alone, the project will cover 91 kilometres and include six proposed stations.

There will be a total of 22 stations; 16 (11 elevated and five underground) will be built in the first phase and the rest in later phases.

Impact on Regional Connectivity

With a maximum speed of 160 km/h (100 mph) and average speed of 105 km/h (65 mph), the distance between Delhi and Alwar is projected to be covered in 104 minutes. The travel time between Sarai Kale Khan and SNB is expected to be reduced from four hours to less than 70 minutes upon completion.

The corridor has been planned for dual use, accommodating both Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) services for longer-distance travel with fewer stops and metro services for shorter suburban travel with more frequent stops.

Economic and Industrial Benefits

The project is expected to directly benefit major industrial hubs in the National Capital Region, including Bhiwadi and Neemrana in Rajasthan, while also creating new investment, employment, and economic growth opportunities. Passing through major industrial centres in Haryana and Rajasthan, the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar corridor is expected to significantly improve regional mobility while ushering in a new phase of industrial growth and infrastructure development in Rajasthan.

Multimodal Integration

The network will also be integrated with railway stations, inter-state bus terminals, airports, and the Delhi Metro to provide seamless multimodal connectivity. Sarai Kale Khan will work as the main interchange station for all Namo Bharat corridors, with passengers getting direct connectivity with Delhi Metro, Railway station, Airports and Inter-state bus terminals.

Next Steps and Timeline

Construction is slated to begin in August 2026, with the commercial launch planned for November 2031, marking a six-year execution window. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has conducted a pre-bid meeting to engage a General Consultant for the ambitious 105-kilometre high-speed commuter rail project, with the tender for appointing the general consultant floated on October 10, 2025, with bid submissions opening on November 11 and closing on November 18, 2025.

In the first phase, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar, and Delhi-Panipat-Karnal corridors are being developed as part of the 'Namo Bharat' network, with the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor having already been inaugurated.

Link to Regional Plan 2041

This RRTS expansion underpins the proposed Namo City node planned for Rajasthan around Alwar/Bharatpur under Regional Plan 2041. These cities will be developed as mixed-use Transit-Oriented Developments at selected existing and proposed stations on the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System lines. Rajasthan has put forward Alwar and Bharatpur as potential candidates, citing their strategic location and long-term growth prospects within the NCR framework.
