What Taiwan City Is
Taiwan City is a planned industrial cluster inside the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region, approved to house Taiwan-linked manufacturing. The Taiwan City will be developed across 300 acres in Sector 6, with plots to be allotted to Taiwan-based companies, and is expected to create a cluster of electronics, semiconductor, information and communications technology (ICT) and other high-tech manufacturing companies in the Yamuna City region. A senior YEIDA official described the project as a dedicated ecosystem for Taiwanese companies and their supply-chain partners.
The concentration of Taiwanese companies is also expected to encourage ancillary units, logistics firms and support services, with the integrated industrial ecosystem covering multiple stages of production from raw materials and components to finished electronic and technology products.
Who Is Building It
Taiwan City is a government-led initiative of YEIDA, not a private township. YEIDA was established in 2001 under the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Area Development Act, 1976, and is the nodal agency responsible for the planned and sustainable development of the region along the Yamuna Expressway, covering the notified areas of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura, and Agra.
Taiwan City was one of several projects cleared together. At its 92nd Board meeting, YEIDA took several important proposals related to industrial development, medical education, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, transportation, sports and farmers, aimed at accelerating the development of the Jewar-Noida Airport region as an integrated industrial and institutional hub — with Taiwan City among the initiatives expected to create new avenues for investment and employment.
Notified Area, Sector and Districts
Taiwan City itself is a 300-acre land-use pocket rather than a separate legal notification. In Sector 6, YEIDA's board granted approval for a Taiwan-based industry/Taiwan City on 300 acres and a Pharmaceutical Formulation Manufacturing Cluster on 100–125 acres in the same sector.
Sector 6 sits within YEIDA's much larger notified footprint. The overall YEIDA region is situated on a 25,000-hectare expanse along the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, and the Authority's notified areas span Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura, and Agra districts. Sector 6 is one of the sectors being actively built out close to the airport, and land acquisition for it has been substantial: YEIDA began a survey to acquire approximately 3,778 acres of land near Noida International Airport across four emerging sectors, with around 859 acres targeted for Sector-6. Specific village names for the Taiwan City footprint have not been separately published; the parcel is described only as falling within Sector 6.
Why Taiwan City Exists
Taiwan City is part of a broader push to root a global electronics and semiconductor supply chain around the new airport. YEIDA has developed over 5,000 acres of industrial land specifically designated for high-tech industries such as electronics and semiconductor manufacturing in the wider area, and the region already anchors a flagship Taiwan-linked project: the Union Cabinet approved a ₹3,706 crore joint venture between HCL and Taiwan-based Foxconn, the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer, to establish an OSAT facility near Jewar Airport in the YEIDA region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the groundbreaking of the HCL-Foxconn semiconductor unit in February 2026.
Taiwan City is designed to build on that anchor by giving other Taiwanese manufacturers and their component/logistics partners a dedicated, ready-planned zone rather than scattered plots. It sits alongside similar country-specific clusters elsewhere in YEIDA: Sectors 4A and 5A have been specially acquired for a proposed Korean City and Japanese City.
Current Status (as of September 2026)
Taiwan City is at the board-approval stage, not yet an operating estate. The decisions were taken during YEIDA's 92nd Board meeting in Greater Noida, where a 300-acre Taiwan City was among the key projects approved alongside an international stadium, modern mandi, medical hub, university township, pharmaceutical manufacturing cluster and interstate bus terminal.
This is a land-use and policy approval — it clears Sector 6 land for this purpose and signals intent to allot plots to Taiwan-based firms, but no allotment scheme, RERA registration, or list of confirmed Taiwanese tenants for Taiwan City itself has been published yet. This should be distinguished from the HCL-Foxconn semiconductor project in nearby Sector 28, which is already under construction following its 2026 groundbreaking — that is a separate, operational project, not part of the Taiwan City land parcel.
Headline Connectivity
Taiwan City's core locational pitch is proximity to the Yamuna Expressway and the new airport. The Yamuna Expressway is a 165.5 km access-controlled expressway connecting Greater Noida with Agra.
The nearby Noida International Airport has moved from construction to limited operation: the airport commenced flight operations on 15 June 2026, with an IndiGo flight landing from Lucknow, and it is a four-phase project with an initial capacity of 12 million passengers annually in Phase I, scalable to 70 million passengers annually at full development. As of mid-2026, dedicated rail connectivity was still pending: there was no metro, no RRTS and no rail link of any kind reaching the airport at launch, and international flights had not yet begun. A Noida Metro Aqua Line extension to the airport has a finalised DPR but had not started construction, with earliest realistic completion around 2028.
What Happens Next
Following board approval, the immediate next steps for the broader Sector 6 package involve technical and financial vetting before any plots go to market. Alongside Taiwan City, YEIDA has approved a 100–125-acre pharmaceutical formulation manufacturing cluster in Sector 6 for GMP-compliant drug manufacturing, and a proposal to constitute a technical expert committee to examine the technical, financial and institutional aspects of establishing related infrastructure.
Investors should watch for a formal plot-allotment scheme specific to Taiwan City (YEIDA has previously used lottery/interview-based allotment for other industrial sectors), progress on Sector 6 land acquisition, and whether the Aqua Line metro extension and RRTS links move from DPR to construction, since better transit will materially change the cluster's logistics profile.

Frequently asked questions
Is Taiwan City open for company applications right now?
As of September 2026, YEIDA's board has approved the 300-acre land use for Taiwan City in Sector 6, but no public plot-allotment scheme naming eligible Taiwanese companies has been announced yet.
Where exactly is Taiwan City located?
It is planned on 300 acres in Sector 6 of the YEIDA region, in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, close to Noida International Airport.
How is Taiwan City different from the HCL-Foxconn semiconductor plant?
The HCL-Foxconn OSAT facility is a separate, already-approved and under-construction project in Sector 28. Taiwan City is a newly approved, wider 300-acre zone in Sector 6 meant for additional Taiwan-linked electronics, semiconductor and ICT manufacturers.
Why is YEIDA creating a Taiwan-specific industrial zone?
It follows the state's push to build an electronics and semiconductor supply chain around Noida International Airport, building on existing Taiwanese investment (like the HCL-Foxconn joint venture) and mirrors similar country-specific clusters planned for Korea and Japan in nearby sectors.
What other projects were approved alongside Taiwan City?
YEIDA's 92nd Board meeting also cleared a 500-acre medical hub, a 480-acre university township, an international stadium, a modern mandi, an interstate bus terminal and a pharmaceutical manufacturing cluster in Sector 6.
Does Taiwan City have metro or airport rail access yet?
Not yet. As of mid-2026 there was no operating metro or RRTS link to Noida International Airport; a metro extension has a finalised design but construction had not started.
