What Is Gangapar Township?

The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) is preparing to develop a new township on more than 100 hectares of land in the Gangapar area, marking another planned expansion of the city beyond its existing urban limits. The proposed township is being planned between Malak Harhar and Shivgarh in the Malaka area. Its proximity to the Ganga Expressway and a National Highway is expected to improve connectivity and create scope for new residential and commercial activity in the surrounding areas.

Developer & Authority

The Government of Uttar Pradesh established Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) in 1974 under Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973. PDA functions under the administrative control of Housing and Urban Planning Department of GoUP. The township project is being taken forward under the Chief Minister's Expansion Scheme.

Location & Geography

The PDA has begun contacting landowners in more than 15 villages under Soraon tehsil as part of the land identification exercise. An official team is expected to survey the identified areas and examine factors such as land availability, total area and other requirements for developing the township. The area lies within Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh.

Why This Township Exists

The authority's focus is not simply on creating residential plots. It wants to identify a location where housing, roads, utilities and other public facilities can be developed together as the area grows. The project is part of Prayagraj's broader urban expansion strategy to accommodate population growth with planned, well-serviced development beyond existing city limits.

Planned Infrastructure & Amenities

Wide roads and connecting routes, drainage infrastructure, drinking water supply, electricity facilities, green spaces, and space for other civic amenities as required are part of the plan. This approach is intended to ensure that urban expansion does not happen in an unplanned manner.

Connectivity

The area between Malaka and Shivgarh is located close to the Ganga Expressway and a National Highway. Better road connectivity could make the proposed township more accessible from other parts of Prayagraj and surrounding areas. The Ganga Expressway opened on 29 April 2026 and is maintained by Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).

Current Status (As of October 2026)

The township is at the planning and land-identification stage, rather than being an immediately ready residential project. The PDA has begun contacting landowners in more than 15 villages under Soraon tehsil as part of the land identification exercise. An official team is expected to survey the identified areas.

Development Timeline & Sequencing

The authority plans to take the township process forward after the bhoomi pujan of the Aerocity. The proposed sequencing links the two major development plans as part of the broader expansion of Gangapar. Once the land survey and other preliminary exercises are completed, the authority will be in a better position to determine the exact land area and development framework.

Related Development: Aerocity

The Gangapar Township development is sequenced to follow the Prayagraj Aerocity project. The Prayagraj Development Authority is preparing to develop a vast residential township named Aero City on roughly 90 acres near Airport Road (Jhalwa), offering a mix of plots and flats, with plot prices expected to start below INR 20 lakh. The Aerocity's progress will trigger formal launch of the Gangapar Township project.
