What the board decided
At its 172nd meeting, the GDA board gave approval to a proposal for an Aerocity and an international cricket stadium near the Raj Nagar Extension area. The meeting also covered the Harnandipuram residential scheme, a high-tech township and fire-safety upgrades. The meeting was chaired by the Meerut Division Commissioner, who is also the board chairman.
The Zee News report carries the headline figure of about ₹5,092.5 crore for the set of projects, and it lists the Aerocity township, the cricket stadium, Harnandipuram and the high-tech township among them. NewsNation reports a narrower figure: ₹2,813 crore for the Aerocity and stadium proposal alone. Neither outlet, in the sources I reviewed, shows the board resolution text, so the split between the two figures cannot be confirmed from official minutes.
The 173rd board meeting, a Friday session in August 2026, confirmed the 172nd meeting minutes and then approved administrative and financial proposals to gather about 541 hectares for the Aerocity development. It also approved a Hindon river embankment meant to protect the Harnandipuram scheme, the stadium site and the Aero City area from flooding. Coverage says all proposals were approved unanimously.
Operative details and where the figures disagree
The area figures in public reporting differ, and they should not be merged into one number. The table sets out each figure with the document it comes from.

The boundaries are described only by village names: Morti (also spelled Morta or Morati in some reports), Ataur (also spelled Ator or Ataur) and Mewla Agri (also spelled Mevla Agri or Mewla Agri). No plot-level boundary map or khasra list was found in the sources reviewed. The Raj Nagar Extension area is named as the broad location.
Land pooling: how it works for owners
GDA began land pooling for the Aerocity project in September 2026. Notices went to farmers and landholders, and they were given 15 days to consent. The first landowner's consent was reported at a ceremony attended by the GDA Vice-Chairman. Under the scheme, landowners do not receive direct cash for the land they hand over. GDA plans instead to return 25% of the developed plots, in proportion to the land each owner contributed.
GDA has said the first phase could cover roughly 50 hectares once consent is gathered and the required land is secured. A road project linked to the scheme has an estimated cost of about ₹185 crore, and the board approved its funding pattern on 21 August 2026, according to officials quoted in the report.
Practical effect and status as of October 2026
Approved: The board has approved the Aerocity township and stadium proposals and the steps to assemble land. These are board decisions. The sources reviewed do not show a government notification of a final Aerocity layout, a sanctioned Detailed Project Report, or a completed land acquisition for the whole area.
Not yet operational: No Aerocity buildings, roads or stadium works are reported as completed. The stadium was described in reporting as proposed. Buyers and investors should treat the township as a planned project, not a delivered one.
Open items: Land area is still being fixed (figures range from about 160 to 541 hectares across reports). Consent from owners is still being gathered. A final layout and DPR would need further approvals; the sources do not give dates for these.
History: The proposal was first outlined in 2014-15 and was revived more recently. The Tribune reports that the project moved forward under the current state government.
