GIFT City and IFSCA Launch 'Young Builders' Program' for Fintech Innovators

What was decided

GIFT City announced the launch of the Young Builders' Program under the GIFT International FinTech Innovation Hub (GIFT IFIH), in strategic collaboration with the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). As per a press release, the initiative aims to identify, cultivate, and accelerate the next generation of fintech innovators by offering a comprehensive and structured pathway from ideation and prototyping to regulatory validation and venture creation.

The programme is open to students, fresh graduates, aspiring entrepreneurs, and young innovators from across India. Applications will be accepted until August 16, 2026.

Operative timeline and structure

The programme will begin with a nationwide application process, following which shortlisted applicants will participate in a two-day FinTech Ideation Hackathon. Shortlisted teams will participate in the FinTech Ideation Hackathon on August 21-22, 2026, after which 10 teams will be selected to advance to the residential programme commencing on September 01, 2026, at GIFT City.

Shortlisted teams will then participate in an intensive eight-week residential programme at GIFT IFIH, where they will engage closely with startup founders, industry specialists, investors, regulators, and ecosystem leaders. During the residency, participants will gain practical exposure to product development, design thinking, customer discovery and validation, business model formulation, and investor pitch readiness, enabling them to transform innovative ideas into scalable, market-ready fintech ventures.

The regulatory pathway: IFSCA Sandbox entry

Under this programme, the top three startups will secure exclusive direct entry into the IFSCA FinTech Sandbox, gaining a valuable platform to pilot and validate cutting-edge financial innovations in a controlled regulatory setting. By bridging innovation with regulatory support, the initiative seeks to fast-track the commercialisation of promising fintech ventures and foster a culture of responsible, future-ready innovation across India's IFSC, according to the release.

The Young Builders' Program will leverage GIFT IFIH's network of investors, industry partners and mentors, as well as its experience in supporting early-stage startups. According to the release, alumni startups from previous GIFT IFIH initiatives have entered two fintech sandboxes, raised significant funding and scaled their businesses through continued ecosystem support.

The initiative is aligned with GIFT City's vision of building a world-class fintech innovation ecosystem and aims to create a pipeline of future-ready ventures capable of addressing the evolving requirements of the financial services industry.

Context: GIFT IFIH's broader mandate

The Young Builders' Program is the latest initiative run through GIFT IFIH, the hub the authority set up to anchor fintech incubation inside the IFSC. Established by GIFT City in January 2025, GIFT IFIH serves as a platform to support fintech startups through incubation, acceleration and access to the broader financial services ecosystem operating within India's International Financial Services Centre (IFSC). Over the next four years, the Hub aims to support 250 fintech startups and contribute to the development of a globally competitive innovation ecosystem anchored in GIFT City.

Separately from the Young Builders' Program, GIFT IFIH also runs a Fintech Residential Programme for early-stage companies. Its second cohort builds on the success of the inaugural Residential Programme, which supported 11 startups with structured mentorship, product development assistance, ecosystem access, and investor engagement. That six-month programme is designed for idea-stage, pre-product, minimum viable product-stage and early-validation startups, and is a distinct track from the newly launched Young Builders' Program, which targets individual students and first-time founders rather than existing early-stage companies.
