HCLTech Opens 500-Seat Global Technology Centre in GIFT City for AI-Driven Financial Services

The Announcement

HCLTech, India's third-largest IT services firm, on Friday announced the launch of its Global Technology Center in GIFT City, Gujarat. HCLTech CEO C Vijayakumar stated: "GIFT City offers world-class infrastructure, and we are pleased to establish our presence in the state to engineer the future of financial services clients with innovative AI solutions."

Facility Design and Operations

The facility, which currently features 500 seats across two floors, is designed to deliver advanced technology services such as artificial intelligence, data engineering, and emerging digital solutions specifically for clients in the banking and financial services sector. The office has started its operations with an initial team of approximately 100 employees, many of whom were recruited locally, with plans to increase its workforce at the site in line with client demand.

Apart from supporting the finance IT sector, the new facility houses an advanced Artificial Intelligence Lab. Deputy Chief Minister Sanghavi described the AI Lab established at the centre as a "game changer" for future technologies.

Local Hiring and Talent Development

This expansion is under HCLTech's "Come Back Home" initiative, which aims to encourage professionals from Gujarat working in cities such as Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad, as well as overseas, to return and pursue careers closer to home. Sanghavi said: "HCLTech's commitment to creating local jobs and nurturing local talent aligns strongly with our vision of enabling Gujarat's youth to access global career opportunities closer to home."

Sanghavi noted that HCL Tech adopted a different approach from many large IT companies by focusing on recruiting locally and working with local partners instead of relying on manpower from other states. He stated: "This policy of the company is truly commendable and will play an important role in making the state's youth self-reliant."

Industry-Academia Collaboration

To support the specialized nature of work conducted at this hub, HCLTech has initiated partnerships with academic institutions, including IIT Gandhinagar and Gujarat Technological University. These collaborations are intended to build a pipeline of skilled professionals proficient in AI and data-driven technologies.

The partnerships will focus on research in AI for financial services, related software and skills development, providing students and faculty with hands-on industry exposure and opportunities to contribute to global technology and digital transformation initiatives.

Strategic Positioning in GIFT City

GIFT City has become a major destination for leading technology companies looking to expand their footprint in India. HCLTech joins other prominent peers such as Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and Hexaware, all of which have established or announced significant tech centers within the region.

By establishing this presence, HCLTech aims to leverage the regulatory environment and infrastructure provided by the International Financial Services Centres Authority, which has been actively encouraging technology and financial service firms to set up operations in the zone.

Government Perspective and Future Expansion

Sanghavi stated: "The launch of the Global Technology Centre and the AI Lab marks an important step in strengthening GIFT City's innovation ecosystem and advancing its position as a leading global TechFin hub."

Sanghavi expressed hope that the company would expand its operations in Gujarat beyond the two floors from which the centre currently operates, saying: "I extend my best wishes to HCL and hope that this centre, which has currently started on two floors, expands further in the coming days and that the company establishes a larger unit in Gujarat."
