What Was Announced

Spark Minda announced investment of ₹1,166 crore for two new manufacturing units in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. The projects are expected to generate about 6,440 jobs and manufacture nearly two million units annually, including electronic switches, sensors, USB chargers and other automotive electronic components.

When and Where It Happened

The groundbreaking ceremony of the two units at Sector-10 and Sector-24, YEIDA, was virtually held in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the sidelines of the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 in the capital. The event took place on 19 August 2026.

Japan City is planned in YEIDA Sector 5A, near Noida International Airport, which provides context for the broader regional investment initiative alongside Spark Minda's expansion.

Products and Manufacturing Scope

The new facilities will produce ignition switch-cum-steering locks, mechatronic components and related vehicle access and connection systems. The Spark Minda facilities are planned to manufacture automotive electronic products including switches, sensors and USB charging units, with an annual production capacity of nearly two million units.

Strategic Fit for Company and Region

Spark Minda's existing security systems, die-casting and wiring harness plants in Noida and Greater Noida already anchor a significant part of its India manufacturing footprint. The two new units at Sector-10 and Sector-24, YEIDA, extend that same Gautam Buddh Nagar industrial cluster rather than starting a footprint from scratch.

The announcement comes alongside manufacturing investments worth over Rs 3,195 crore by Escorts Kubota and Spark Minda Group, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also announcing plans to develop a dedicated Japanese City across around 500 acres at Sector 5A of YEIDA.

Broader Japan Investment Initiative

The proposed Japanese City township will offer an integrated industrial, commercial and residential ecosystem for Japanese companies and citizens. The reported plan for the Japanese and Korean cities is 70 per cent industrial, 13 per cent commercial, 10 per cent residential, 5 per cent institutional and 2 per cent roads and green space. Spark Minda's investment is part of this larger initiative to attract Japanese manufacturing to Uttar Pradesh.

Separate Toyodenso Joint Venture

Alongside the YEIDA expansion, Spark Minda has confirmed a new joint venture with Japan's Toyodenso Co. Ltd. to manufacture advanced automotive switches. The plant will be set up in Noida with operations expected to begin in Q4 FY27, backed by a committed investment of around ₹60 crore.
