PM Modi Reviews Krishnapatnam Industrial Area at 49th Pragati Meeting

What Was Reviewed

The Krishnapatnam Industrial Area project was reviewed by the Prime Minister during the 49th Pragati Meeting on 24th September 2025, according to NICDC's official monitoring report. During the meeting, the Prime Minister reviewed eight critical infrastructure projects across sectors, including Mines, Railways, Water Resources, Industrial Corridors, and Power. These projects span 15 States and Union Territories stretching across the country, with a cumulative investment of over ₹65,000 crore.

About Krishnapatnam Industrial Area

The Krishnapatnam Industrial Area (KRIS City), a flagship project under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme, is envisioned as a greenfield industrial smart city. The project is set to attract significant manufacturing investments of approximately Rs. 10,500 crore and is also projected to create around 1 lakh direct and indirect jobs.

Krishnapatnam node has been identified as a priority node in the state of Andhra Pradesh under Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC). The site is spread across two sites located about 60km apart. The north and south sites together admeasure approximately 14,200 acres.

North site is in Nellore District, about 10 km from the Krishnapatnam Port. Access to upgraded infrastructure and enhanced capacity of Krishnapatnam Port which is being expanded under the Sagaramala Project as a part of the Coastal Economic Zone provides strategic advantages for export and import-oriented industries.

Project Status and Infrastructure Development

In early January 2025, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Krishnapatnam Node, Andhra Pradesh. This node, known as KRIS City, is a greenfield smart industrial hub with strong port linkages. The Tumakuru and Krishnapatnam nodes are both under construction and are expected to deliver plug-and-play infrastructure by late 2026.

The area of Phase-1 is 2,492 acres, within which the activation area is 2,139 acres. Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Prime Minister has approved the project proposals for the construction of various trunk infrastructure components in Phase 1 of Krishnapatnam Industrial Area with an estimated cost of the project of ₹ 2,139.44 crores.

The platform brings together the Centre and States to fast-track major projects, address bottlenecks, and ensure time-bound delivery. The projects were reviewed with emphasis on clear timelines, effective inter-agency coordination, and prompt resolution of bottlenecks.

Next Steps

In early 2026, official updates identified the node among projects nearing completion, with the first phase targeted for completion by the end of 2026. The review by the Prime Minister underscores continued central-government oversight to ensure the project meets its execution timeline and infrastructure delivery milestones. LOA issued by SPV for Programme Manager for New Cities (PMNC) on 27th March, 2025 and for EPC on 9th Oct, 2025, indicating that construction and engineering procurement is well underway.
