Kurnool Collector Directs Acceleration of Orvakal Industrial Hub Infrastructure

What Happened
On November 6, 2024, Kurnool Collector P Ranjith Basha held a meeting with APIIC officials at Orvakal tahsildar office to review development of Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub. Prior to the meeting, he inspected ongoing infrastructure works at the industrial hub on APIIC lands.
During the inspection, the Collector enquired about water pipeline works being laid from Muchumarri to Orvakal Industrial Corridor and learned that about 50 per cent of works have been completed. He ordered immediate completion of the remaining works.
After inspecting internal roads, the Collector directed officials to complete road laying within three months.
Why It Matters
The Collector stated that Orvakal Industrial Corridor will be a growth engine and facilitate development of Kurnool district. Water supply and internal transport infrastructure are foundational; delays in these systems prevent industries from establishing operations and generating employment.
The Orvakal node spans 2,621 acres under the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, strategically located with access to NH40, NH44, and Kurnool Bypass. The hub is designed to cater to diverse sectors including automobile components, renewable energy, aerospace and defence, electrical and electronics, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and gems and jewellery.
The Water Pipeline Project
A 57-km pipeline was planned to run from Handri Neeva Sujala Shravanthi's Muchumarri reservoir to the Orvakal industrial area, with foundation laid in October 2022. The entire project, including installation of reservoirs, intake well, pipeline, and motors, was planned to be completed in two years at a cost of Rs 428 crores.
Water supply is arranged for 100 days a year through the pipeline to Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub via Muchumarri. This seasonal supply model reflects water availability from Srisailam project backwaters.
Current Development Status
Several major industries are set to begin operations or are in pipeline, including Jairaj Ispat Ltd (integrated steel plant, 413 acres, ₹2,938 crore investment, 1,030 jobs); Sigachi Industries (25 acres, ₹285 crore, 850 jobs); Pure Energy (EV manufacturing, 105 acres, ₹1,286 crore, 1,200 jobs); and Reliance Consumer Products (80 acres, ₹1,622 crore, 1,200 jobs).
Additional projects poised to enter include a drone manufacturing unit (300 acres, ₹7,000 crore, 1,000 jobs), solar cell manufacturing by Agastya Solar (111.66 acres, ₹7,000 crore, 1,000 jobs), and an e-Mobility battery plant (245.66 acres, ₹1,000 crore, 1,000 jobs).
The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Corridor Authority approved the final master plan with 52 per cent of land being utilised for industrial purposes.
What Comes Next
The immediate timeline is three months from November 2024 for completion of internal roads. Following orders of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, a drone hub is confirmed at Orvakal, proposed over 300 acres, with suitable land identified at Palakolanu and Komarole villages.
Industries Minister TG Bharat announced plans to develop the Orvakal Industrial Hub at an estimated cost of Rs 2,800 crore, indicating sustained state-level investment commitment.
Success depends on: water pipeline completion by early 2025; road infrastructure readiness by February 2025; environmental clearances for incoming industries; and timely land allotments to approved investors.
