Mumbai districts lead recovery totals

Mumbai recorded the highest combined recovery, at about ₹228 crore across Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban. District figures reported by The Economic Times put Mumbai Suburban recoveries at ₹142.31 crore against ₹415.93 crore in orders, and Mumbai City at ₹85.80 crore against ₹231.81 crore.

Pune recorded ₹68.63 crore recovered against ₹230.45 crore in orders. Other reported figures included ₹36.79 crore recovered against ₹87.45 crore in Thane City and ₹12 crore against ₹27.54 crore in Alibaug. Hindustan Times reported that Sindhudurg, Solapur and Chandrapur had reduced outstanding compensation to zero.

Outstanding compensation was reported at ₹415 crore in Mumbai Suburban, ₹231 crore in Mumbai City and ₹230 crore in Pune. Together, Mumbai and Pune had ₹878 crore in dues, using those rounded figures.

Some proceedings face restrictions

MahaRERA said ₹104.70 crore in cases was pending before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), while ₹104.46 crore in cases fell under the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors in Financial Establishments Act, 1999. Recovery proceedings involving a combined ₹209.16 crore were restricted in those cases.

MahaRERA issues recovery orders when a developer defaults on compensation, including in cases involving failure to hand over possession. District collectors and other revenue authorities execute the warrants under the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966.

Revenue officers assigned to recovery work

The Maharashtra government has designated Resident Deputy Collectors and Additional District Collectors in every district as dedicated Revenue Recovery Officers for MahaRERA cases, according to The Economic Times. The measure is intended to speed up warrant execution and improve recovery. No implementation deadline or further dated step was reported as of October 19, 2026.

For affected buyers, the figures show that compensation orders have resulted in substantial collections, while outstanding dues and restricted proceedings remain. The reports provide statewide and district totals, rather than a breakdown of individual buyer payments or a forecast of when remaining amounts will be recovered.
