What happened
Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened Pune Metro Line 3 on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, by video conference. The ceremony was held at the badminton court of the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune. Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar attended.
Passenger services started on Wednesday, 4 November 2026. Initially, 17 of the line's 23 stations are open to the public.
At the same event, Modi laid the foundation stone for four new corridors under Phase II of the Pune Metro. Reported figures put the combined value of the Line 3 project and the Phase II corridors at around ₹21,800 crore.
Route, operator and model
The line is an elevated corridor of about 23.2 km. It runs from Maan through the Hinjawadi IT hub, Wakad, Balewadi and Baner to University Circle and the District Court metro station in Shivajinagar.
The project is built under a public-private partnership. Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited is implementing it with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority. The concession runs for 35 years, with a provision for a further 25-year extension.
PMRDA Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari said the trip from Maan to Civil Court would take about 40 to 45 minutes by metro. He said the line will significantly help reduce traffic congestion, particularly in the Hinjawadi area.
- All trains are to be operated by around 100 women train pilots.
- Solar generation capacity of 7.60 MW has been installed: 6.10 MW at stations and 1.50 MW at the car depot.
- At District Court, Line 3 connects with Line 1 (Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate) and Line 2 (Vanaz to Ramwadi).
Stations open and still to come
Seventeen stations are open from 4 November 2026. The remaining six are yet to open. Authorities have indicated that two could be ready by the end of November 2026, and the other four by January 2027.
Industry commentary notes that the service remains incomplete until the final six stations are commissioned.
What the developer said
Rajat Khandelwal, Group CEO of Tribeca Developers, said Pune's expanding employment hubs and infrastructure were strengthening the city's real estate prospects. He named Hinjawadi, Wakad, Baner, Balewadi and Mahalunge as micro-markets likely to benefit from better accessibility.
He also said Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar and Shivajinagar are expected to gain from better citywide connectivity. He pointed to growing interest in premium and trophy commercial developments as a sign of business and investor confidence in the city.
These are market comments. They come with no Tribeca project launch, price or sales figure attached. Tribeca's Pune project named in its public material, Yoo One on NIBM Road, is in South Pune, outside the western corridor the story covers.
Khandelwal was appointed Group CEO of Tribeca Developers in November 2023. Tribeca describes itself as focused on three geographies: NCR, Mumbai and Pune.
Office demand data
Commentary on the line has been paired with office leasing figures from Cushman & Wakefield's Q3 2026 report for Pune:
| Measure | Figure |
|---|---|
| Gross office leasing, Q3 2026 | 1.99 million sq ft |
| Gross office leasing, first nine months of 2026 | About 7.05 million sq ft |
| Net absorption, first nine months of 2026 | 4.24 million sq ft |
Global Capability Centres accounted for around 65% of Q3 2026 leasing.
What it means for buyers, investors and the market
- Commuting: Line 3 gives IT workers in Hinjawadi and along the corridor a metro alternative to road travel. Travel times and ease of access will depend on the remaining stations opening.
- Housing demand: Forecasts of rising housing demand in the named micro-markets are commentary. No sales, price or absorption data for these areas has been published with the announcement.
- Connectivity: Connectivity is likely to become a more important factor for homebuyers in western Pune, according to the report's own assessment.
- Public transport: Baner and Balewadi already face rising congestion. Their local官 transport choices will widen once more stations open.
What comes next
- Two stations could open by the end of November 2026.
- The remaining four stations are expected by January 2027.
- Phase II corridors have had foundation stones laid. No completion date for them has been announced.
- Proposed extensions toward Nigdi, Katraj, Wagholi and Chandni Chowk have been listed in planning material, without dates.
