CBIC Tumakuru Industrial Township Ltd. invited applications for allotment of industrial plots in Phase–A at Vasanthanarasapura, Tumakuru District. The announcement cited 574 acres as the total allottable area of industrial plots, alongside the development of complementary infrastructure.

A 300-acre Japanese Industrial Township (JIT) is also being developed to attract Japanese manufacturers with quality infrastructure. Who decided and institutional structure

The Tumakuru Industrial Township is part of the Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) and is being developed in three phases, with Phase-A covering 1,722 acres. The Government of India, through the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), and the Government of Karnataka, through the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), have taken up the development of the Industrial Township at Vasanthanarsapura through the project Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).

CBIC Tumakuru Industrial Township Limited is a public company incorporated on 01 November 2018, serving as the operational SPV for this node.

Strategic rationale and location advantage

Located 120 km north of Bengaluru and 20 km from Tumakuru city, the site offers excellent connectivity. The announcement cited strategic proximity to Bengaluru, enabling seamless OEM and Tier-I integration; excellent connectivity via NH-48, rail network and Bengaluru International Airport; availability of large, contiguous land parcels for scalable industrial development; strong MSME and supplier ecosystem supporting localized sourcing; and competitive land and operational costs with reliable workforce availability.

Investment and employment expectations

Phase-A of the project is expected to generate employment opportunities for approximately 88,000 people and attract investment of around Rs. 7,000 crore over a period of 5-6 years. For the broader Tumakuru Node, the proposed investment will be around Rs 50,000 crore with an employment potential of 2,20,000 persons.

Current development status and timeline

The Tumakuru node is under construction and is expected to deliver plug-and-play infrastructure by late 2026. An EPC contractor was appointed in February 2023 and has started construction of roads, minor bridges, stormwater drains, utility ducts, and water treatment plants. KIADB is expected to formalise a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and launch the allotment process within the coming months.
