Metro corridor reaches critical milestone

BMRCL submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Bengaluru-Tumakuru corridor to the Karnataka government, advancing the region's long-awaited metro connectivity. The 59.60-km Metro extension, planned from Madavara to Tumakuru, is expected to become one of the longest suburban Metro corridors in Karnataka.

The proposed line will connect Madavara with Tumakuru through Nelamangala, Dobbspet and Kyathasandra, strengthening regional mobility between Bengaluru and key industrial and residential belts along the corridor. The report is now expected to be placed before the Karnataka Cabinet for further deliberations and approval.

BMRCL's preference for a Public-Private Partnership model, particularly the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) framework, is chosen due to its ability to balance private sector efficiency with government control, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence and optimal operational standards.

Global foundry firm opens new Tumkur manufacturing plant

Norican, a global leader in metal formation, surface treatment and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies for the foundry industry, has strengthened its manufacturing presence in India with the commencement of commercial production at its new greenfield facility in Tumkur, Karnataka.

Located adjacent to Norican India's existing manufacturing unit, the new facility has been established to meet rising domestic and global demand while enhancing production capacity and operational efficiency. The project was completed in a record 12 months, demonstrating strong project execution and collaboration across Norican's India operations.

The sprawling facility of 20,000 sq.m. will be the central manufacturing facility for key Norican technology equipment of DISA – moulding machines, sand plants, as well as Wheelabrator shot blasting equipment, industrial filters, and the aftermarket distribution centre.

Industrial node investment accelerates in 2026

A significant amount of confirmed and proposed investment has landed in Tumakuru over the past 12 months, spanning manufacturing, rail, metro, and industrial-node infrastructure, including Norican's foundry-technology facility which commenced commercial production at a new Tumkur plant on June 1, 2026.

Samvardhana Motherson via CIM Tools has announced approximately ₹200 crore in aerospace component manufacturing investment. Daiki Axis, a Japanese wastewater-treatment technology firm, announced approximately ₹200 crore for its third India facility in November 2025, manufacturing Johkasou sewage treatment systems.

MANN+HUMMEL has officially inaugurated its new Global Technology & Innovation Center in Tumkur, Karnataka on May 21, 2026. The new Tumkur facility now stands as its largest development center outside of Germany, anchoring more than one-third of the group's global R&D workforce.

CBIC Tumakuru Industrial Node nears completion

The Government of India, through the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), and the Government of Karnataka, through the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), have taken up the development of the Industrial Township at Vasanthanarsapura, spread across 8,500 acres in three phases in Tumakuru district through the project Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).

The SPV, CBIC Tumakuru Industrial Township Limited, was incorporated in 2018; the Government of India approved the project in December 2020; land transfer stands at around 1,668 acres, with matching central equity released; environmental clearance was obtained in 2021, and the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone in February 2023.

In early 2026, official updates identified the node among projects nearing completion, with the first phase targeted for completion by the end of 2026, and expected to deliver plug-and-play infrastructure by late 2026.

A 300-acre Japan Industrial Park, announced at the India-Japan Business Summit 2025, is being developed by KIADB at Vasanthanarasapura exclusively for Japanese manufacturing firms.

What the ₹76,000 crore figure represents

The consolidated ₹76,000 crore investment outlook combines multiple confirmed and proposed projects announced or progressed during 2025–2026:

These projects indicate accelerating industrial, infrastructure and technology-driven investment anchoring Tumakuru as a Tier-2 regional hub competing with Bengaluru for manufacturing and innovation activity.

What comes next

The Bengaluru-Tumakuru metro DPR is expected to be placed before the Karnataka Cabinet for further deliberations and approval, with no official Cabinet decision announced as of July 2026.

Tumakuru node trunk infrastructure is expected to deliver plug-and-play industrial facilities by late 2026, enabling Phase-A plot allotments to accelerate in Q4 2026 and early 2027.

Land acquisition for the Bengaluru-Tumakuru quadruple rail line upgrade is expected to begin in further months, dependent on government funding and clearances.

The completion of these three major infrastructure anchors—metro DPR approval, industrial node Phase-A operational readiness, and rail-line land acquisition commencement—will likely trigger a sustained wave of downstream private industrial and real-estate investment, consolidating Tumakuru's position as Karnataka's primary counter-magnet to Bengaluru's constrained capacity and rising operational costs.
