Decision and Scope

YEIDA approved a plan to build five University Townships placing higher education institutions, research centres, skilling facilities and industrial units in close proximity. The decision was made at the 92nd board meeting on Monday 17 August 2026. The first 480-acre township in Sector 14 has been approved; in the larger plan, there will be several townships connected to industry and employment.

Sector 14 University Township — Operative Details

480 acres in Sector 14 have been designated for a university/township. The townships are not planned as university campuses, but as education-industry clusters, each around 500–700 acres and situated in or near large industrial corridors. The township allocation in Sector 14 represents the first operational phase of the larger five-township strategy.

Model Framework and Pillars

The model is based on three pillars: academic institutions, industry integration and shared infrastructure. Multiple public, private, and public-private partnership institutions would be allowed to establish campuses while retaining their academic, administrative and financial autonomy.

Common infrastructure will consist of laboratories, library, student and staff accommodation, incubation centres, internship and apprenticeship cells, sports infrastructure, internal roads, utilities, and digital infrastructure. The concept is to provide ease for universities and industries in the vicinity to work together in research, innovation and skill development.

Remaining Four Townships

In the four remaining townships, YEIDA has yet to publicise any specific sectors or individual parcels of land. They will be identified according to their industrial and logistics connections, availability of large and contiguous land, existing academic ecosystem and the state's readiness to implement the project.

Decision Context and Board Authority

The 92nd Board Meeting of YEIDA held on Monday reviewed the Authority's financial figures and approved several important development projects. The board cleared a series of infrastructure and industrial proposals aimed at driving growth around Noida International Airport. According to YEIDA CEO RK Singh, the board meeting recently approved the proposal.
