What is IMC Agra / Agra Industrial Smart City

IMC Agra is one of the Integrated Manufacturing Clusters being built under the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme run by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) and its trust, NICDIT. The Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) initiative took a significant step forward with the signing of the State Support Agreement (SSA) and Shareholder Agreement (SHA) between NICDC, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and UPSIDA, formally launching development of the cluster on the ground in Uttar Pradesh. On the state side, the project is executed through the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) and a dedicated project company. The AKIC Integrated Manufacturing Cluster Agra-Prayagraj Ltd, SPV was incorporated on 30th January, 2025.

Location and connectivity

IMC Agra, spread across 1,058 acres along Agra's Inner Ring Road, is strategically located just 25 km from the EDFC, 205 km from Delhi NCR, and 334 km from Lucknow, positioned between key junctions linking the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, offering seamless road connectivity. This puts the cluster within the broader AKIC development band, which the corridor plan defines around the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) alignment.

Total planned area vs. area under active development

The total notified/confirmed land for IMC Agra is fixed at 1,058 acres (roughly 428 hectares). IMC at Agra in the State of U.P was included for development under AKIC in the NICDIT meeting held on 14th July, 2021, and State Govt. in December 2022 confirmed the availability of 1,058-acre land for the project. Unlike some other AKIC nodes (for example the Rajasthan JPMIA node, which is being rolled out in a first phase of 1,577 acres out of a larger 8,121-acre revised area), no official document found for IMC Agra breaks the 1,058 acres into separate development phases with hectare-wise targets or target years. As of the latest published National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation project-monitoring update (31 May 2026), trunk infrastructure works, land-clearance formalities and contractor appointment were still underway; no acreage had yet been reported as "developed" or handed over to industrial allottees for IMC Agra specifically.

Press communications describe the investment figure more broadly as the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Agra, strategically located across 1,058 acres along the city's Inner Ring Road, anticipated to bring in over INR 3,400 crore in investments. No separate residential-population target has been published for IMC Agra — it is planned as an industrial/manufacturing cluster with plug-and-play plots, not a full residential township, so population figures should not be assumed or extrapolated.

Land use

NICDC describes its industrial smart cities in general terms as offering land for mixed-use development, ensuring a holistic approach to urban planning, with the integration of industrial, residential and commercial land uses promoting synergy between industries, residential communities, and commercial spaces. However, no official document found publicly gives a specific land-use percentage split (industrial vs. residential vs. commercial vs. green/utility) for the 1,058-acre IMC Agra site. Until UPSIDA/NICDC release the detailed master plan and zoning report for this cluster, a numeric land-use split should not be stated.

Planning and consultants

Project-monitoring reports confirm a consultant has been engaged for the technical planning work, though the firm's name is not disclosed in the public reports reviewed.
