CM Yogi Announces ₹342 Crore Projects in Agra; Industrialists Press for IT Park, Trade Centre, Textile Hub

CM's Visit and Project Announcement

During the visit, the Chief Minister presented the Taj city with a total of 53 major development projects worth Rs 342 crore. The main programme was held on July 26, 2026, at Tata Ground on Fatehabad Road.

Over the past nine years, the Taj city has rapidly evolved from a tourist destination to a modern and industrial city. The CM's announcement comes as part of the broader industrial transformation of Agra under the Yogi Adityanath government.

TTZ Relief: Supreme Court Eases Industrial Restrictions

The Supreme Court on July 23, 2026, relaxed its earlier order that had effectively barred fresh industrial activity in the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ), allowing the TTZ Authority to process around 410 pending applications, most of them filed by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The Bench directed that the applications may be considered subject to a scrutiny mechanism involving experts from the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and the Central Empowered Committee (CEC). Agra's dedication to environmental protection, particularly within the protected Taj Trapezium Zone, makes it ideal for eco-friendly industrial activities.

Industrialists' Demands: IT City, Trade Centre, Textile Hub

During meetings with CM Yogi, prominent industrialists and industrial associations presented demands for further industrial development. They sought an IT park, a world-class trade centre, and a textile hub in Agra, citing the city's heritage and manufacturing traditions. The industrialists also thanked the CM for the TTZ relief and reduced house tax concessions on industries.

In response, the CM gave positive signals on these demands, noting that plug-and-play flatted factory complexes would form the foundation for future industrial expansion given Agra's costly land and space constraints.

Agra Integrated Manufacturing Cluster: Scale and Vision

The Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Agra is strategically located across 1,058 acres along the city's Inner Ring Road, ensuring seamless connectivity to significant junctions, including Delhi NCR and the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. The cluster aims to attract over INR 3,400 crore in investments.

Non-polluting industries such as leather, footwear and agro-based products will be encouraged to establish operations. A dedicated project implementation team will oversee the development and ensure timely execution, with a target completion time of 36 months.

Flatted Factory Model for Industrial Growth

The CM indicated that flatted factory complexes—multi-storied industrial buildings that stack non-polluting units vertically—would be central to Agra's industrial expansion strategy. Flatted factories are multistorey complexes in which non-polluting industrial units can operate; this concept is adopted to ensure easy availability of land for industries. This approach addresses Agra's land scarcity and high land costs while accommodating industrial growth.

NICDC Partnership and National Corridor Framework

The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) and Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) have partnered to develop Integrated Manufacturing Clusters (IMC) in Agra and Prayagraj as part of the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC). Spanning across 10 states and strategically planned along six major corridors, these industrial areas will be located in Khurpia in Uttrakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orvakal and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh and Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan.

What's Next: Implementation and Expansion

With TTZ restrictions eased and industrial land identified, the IMC Agra project is expected to accelerate. NICDC and UPSIDA will oversee infrastructure development—roads, water and power supply, ICT services—under a plug-and-play model. The CM's positive signals on IT parks, trade centres, and textile hubs suggest possible announcements of detailed feasibility studies and additional facility development over the coming months. The 36-month timeline targets operational readiness by mid-2027 or later, depending on land acquisition completion and contractor appointment.
