Eco City-3 Connectivity: Airports, Roads, Rail and Metro
Eco City-3, also called Eco City III and Eco City Phase III, is a planned GMADA township in New Chandigarh. As of October 2026, its wider area has road connections and access to Chandigarh’s airport and railway station; the township’s own development and a proposed metro link should not be treated as completed infrastructure.

| Airport | Chandigarh International Airport is the regional airport; access from New Chandigarh is by road. |
|---|---|
| Rail | Chandigarh railway station is the regional passenger rail hub; the Mullanpur master plan identifies no Eco City-3 station. |
| Metro | A proposed Chandigarh Metro corridor would connect New Chandigarh with Panchkula, but no detailed project report had been prepared, as reported in 2025. |
| Road planning | The Mullanpur master plan identifies PR-4 and PR-6 as proposed major arterial links serving the wider planned area. |
| Project status | GMADA’s Eco City-3 received environmental clearance in October 2026; this is a regulatory milestone, not confirmation that its internal roads are operational. |
Airport access
Chandigarh International Airport, also known as Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, is the main airport serving the region. New Chandigarh connects to it by road through the wider Mohali road network. The Mullanpur master plan identifies proposed arterial-road links intended to improve connections between Mullanpur, SAS Nagar and the airport; a planned link should not be read as an operational route. Status as of October 2026: airport operational; local access by road.
Roads and expressways
The Mullanpur master plan describes PR-4 as a proposed major arterial extension from Chandigarh through Mullanpur, and PR-6 as a proposed northbound arterial connecting the SAS Nagar area with Mullanpur. The plan also describes PR-3 as a link toward the GMADA Expressway and Anandpur Sahib. These are regional planning routes, not evidence that every stretch is complete.
GMADA has recorded completed road works in the wider New Chandigarh area, including a 200-foot-wide PR-4 section between Togan and Boothgarh. A separate report in 2025 described stretches of PR-4 and other local roads as unfinished. Accordingly, the route network includes completed sections as well as works and links whose status varies by stretch. Status as of October 2026: mixed; do not assume the full planned arterial network is operational.
Eco City-3 itself is still at the planning and development stage following environmental clearance in October 2026. The project’s internal roads are therefore part of the planned township infrastructure, not a completed network.
Rail and freight
Chandigarh railway station serves passenger and goods traffic for Chandigarh and neighbouring towns. It is the regional rail access point for New Chandigarh; the Mullanpur master plan discusses the regional railway network but does not establish a rail station within Eco City-3. Status as of October 2026: Chandigarh station operational; no Eco City-3 station identified in the cited plan.
No dedicated freight-corridor connection to Eco City-3 is established in the planning material cited here. The site’s documented freight access is by road and the wider regional rail network.
Metro proposal
A proposed Chandigarh Metro Phase I network includes a corridor from Paroul in New Chandigarh toward Panchkula Sector 28, via locations including PGI and Chandigarh railway station. It is a regional proposal rather than an operational service to Eco City-3. In a 2025 report, the project was described as stalled without a detailed project report. Status as of October 2026: proposed; not operational or under construction on the evidence cited.
Ports
Eco City-3 is an inland township. The connectivity plans cited for the project and Mullanpur focus on road, rail, airport and proposed urban transit links.
Frequently asked questions
Which airport serves Eco City-3?
Chandigarh International Airport is the regional airport. Travel from New Chandigarh is by road.
Is there a railway station in Eco City-3?
The Mullanpur master plan does not identify a station within Eco City-3. Chandigarh railway station is the regional rail hub.
Will the Chandigarh Metro serve New Chandigarh?
A proposed Phase I corridor would connect Paroul in New Chandigarh with Panchkula Sector 28. As of October 2026, the cited evidence does not show the metro as operational or under construction.
Are Eco City-3’s internal roads operational?
Eco City-3 received environmental clearance in October 2026 and remains a planned development. Its internal roads should not be assumed to be operational.
Are the planned PR-4 and PR-6 roads complete?
The master plan identifies these as proposed arterial routes. Records and reporting describe completed sections as well as unfinished stretches, so status varies by section.
