What was proposed

Ipca Laboratories has proposed an investment of about ₹80 crore at Vikram Udyogpuri in Ujjain district. The figure was reported after Chief Minister Mohan Yadav held one-to-one talks with industry heads in Mumbai on 8 October 2026. The Ujjain plan sits inside a larger package that also includes about ₹1,000 crore for Dewas, which brings the total to about ₹1,080 crore.

Reports do not describe the Ujjain facility in detail. They do not say what it will manufacture, the size of the built area, or a construction timetable for that site.

Who decided and what the status is

No decision was taken by a government body on this project. The company put the proposal forward during the meeting, and the state government's role was to discuss it and the support needed to carry it out. The meeting was part of the state's ‘Dialogue on Investment Opportunities in Madhya Pradesh’ held at a Mumbai hotel.

Reports also say the meeting explored whether Ipca might join the upcoming biotech park in Ratlam. That is a discussion point only and has not been confirmed.

Jobs and what the proposal changes

The two Ipca projects are expected to create about 1,500 jobs, with about 1,000 in Dewas and about 500 at Vikram Udyogpuri. These are projections from the proposal and have not been verified against any approved plan.

Ipca already runs seven manufacturing facilities in Ratlam, Pithampur, Indore, Bhopal and Dewas, according to reports of the meeting. None of the listed sites is in Ujjain, so the Vikram Udyogpuri plant would add a new location for the company in the state.

The proposal is one of many that the state reported from the Mumbai event. The Chief Minister said the wider set of proposals was worth about ₹90,000 crore and could generate about 14,375 jobs. Renewable energy accounted for most of that total, at ₹71,289 crore. Pharmaceuticals were listed at ₹2,280 crore.

Context on Vikram Udyogpuri

Vikram Udyogpuri is a Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor township at Narwar village near Ujjain. The special purpose vehicle that develops it is Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Vikram Udyogpuri Limited (DMICVUL). The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation describes the township as developed over about 1,100 acres.

The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) reported in 2025 that it had acquired more than 400 hectares of private land for a second phase, and that the first-phase area was nearly full. Reports from early 2025 also described a backlog of about 200 investment proposals seeking about 121 hectares. The Ipca proposal is an investment proposal, and it is not clear from the reports whether it is linked to this second-phase land.

What is next

The next steps for the Ujjain project are not set out in the reports. Any land allotment, environmental approvals, construction start or production date would still need to be confirmed by the company or the authorities. A figure for when the Ujjain plant might begin production was not found in the reporting. One report cites a 2028 production start and an initial ₹2,500 crore outlay, but it does not clearly tie either figure to the Ujjain site, so this page does not use them.
