₹1,700 Crore Investment to Launch 17 New Factories in Vikram Udyogpuri and Medical Device Park by 2026

What's Happening

Moving beyond its identity as a religious city, Ujjain is rapidly progressing towards establishing an industrial identity, with Vikram Udyogpuri and the Medical Device Park proving instrumental in giving a new identity to Ujjain's industrial landscape.

In Vikram Udyogpuri, 9 industries will be launched including significant investments in beverages, pharmaceuticals, engineering, toys, and food processing, with approximately ₹1,360 crore being invested and generating employment for over 1,700 individuals.

The Medical Device Park will see the launch of 8 units with an investment of around ₹254 crore, providing employment to 2,400 people and strengthening the manufacturing of medical equipment.

Industrial Base and Infrastructure

Integrated Industrial Township Vikram Udyogpuri (IIT-VUL), developed over 1,100 acres in Ujjain, is a key DMIC project driving the Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow Investment Region.

Strategically located near SH-18 and the Ujjain-Dewas railway line, it features robust infrastructure including roads, power, water, STPs, and solid waste systems, with AMUL as the anchor investor and 12 operational units and 16+ under construction.

So far, 58 industries have secured land in the existing industrial area, with over 15 already in trial or production stages, and companies like PepsiCo India, Amul, and Karnataka Antibiotics are among those establishing operations in the zone.

Medical Device Sector Growth

Companies launching include Microgen Healthcare for infection control products, wound care, and bone implants; Meepl Technologies for women's health equipment; Shriji Polymers Medical Devices for insulin devices and spray pumps; and Bioline India for blood collection and blood bag equipment.

According to MPIDC data, a total of 66 companies have been allocated land within the Medical Device Park, with cumulative investments projected to reach approximately ₹2,899 crore and an expected broader ecosystem creating over 11,000 jobs.

Expansion Under Way

The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) has acquired over 400 hectares of private land to develop Phase 2 of the Vikram Udyogpuri industrial area, aiming to attract significant industrial investments and address the rising demand for space in the region.

Vikram Udyogpuri currently spans 458 hectares and is nearing full capacity, with the MPIDC having initiated the process of land acquisition and preparing a detailed project report for the second phase.

Major Anchors and Leadership

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Ujjain is rapidly developing as an industrial hub with increasing investment in Vikram Udyogpuri and the Medical Device Park creating a conducive environment for industries and providing employment to the local youth.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (DMICVUL) namely the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Vikram Udyogpuri Limited has been incorporated for achieving the goals of enhancing employment, industrial output and exports from the region.

Previous Major Investment: VECV Plant

VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), the joint venture of Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, announced a major ₹544 crore investment to set up a greenfield factory near Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, dedicated to producing Volvo's 12-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), with the facility located in the Vikram Udyogpuri Integrated Industrial Township.

VECV anticipates an initial output capacity of 40,000 AMT units annually, with around 90% of the units produced serving Volvo's international operations and the remaining portion integrated into Eicher's heavy-duty trucks in India.
