What has been reported

Reports published on 26 October 2026 say Uttar Pradesh's Bundelkhand region has drawn new investment proposals worth over ₹80,000 crore. The proposals span energy, data centres, infrastructure and tourism. One report also lists real estate, IT and food processing among the statewide sectors.

The ₹80,000 crore figure covers the Bundelkhand region as a whole. It is not a BIDA-only total. Official data counts 90 projects in the region, several of them above ₹1,000 crore each.

Statewide, the pipeline is about ₹7.35 lakh crore across roughly 7,000 proposals. Manufacturing accounts for about ₹2.75 lakh crore, data centres about ₹1.80 lakh crore, energy and infrastructure about ₹1.5 lakh crore each, and real estate about ₹75,000 crore. Western Uttar Pradesh leads the state tally at ₹4.75 trillion, followed by Eastern Uttar Pradesh at ₹1.20 trillion and Central Uttar Pradesh at ₹80,000 crore.

These are proposals and commitments. They are not completed investments, and reports describe them as the start of a pipeline rather than projects already built.

BIDA's place in the picture

BIDA is a Uttar Pradesh government authority building a greenfield industrial city on the outskirts of Jhansi. It is intended as a manufacturing and logistics hub, modelled on the Noida-style industrial city concept, for a region that has long lagged economically.

Reports name BIDA together with the 296-km Bundelkhand Expressway, which was inaugurated in July 2022, and the UP Defence Industrial Corridor, which has nodes at Jhansi and Chitrakoot. Together these are presented as the main drivers of the current investment interest.

The city's statutory basis is the UP Industrial Area Development Act, 1976. The area was notified on 14 September 2023. The BIDA board approved the Master Plan 2045 by October 2025. The plan covers 253.33 sq km across 33 revenue villages in Jhansi tehsil, with detailed sector and zonal planning continuing afterwards.

Where BIDA stands as of 30 October 2026

The approvals and land work are moving in stages, and construction of the city itself is only beginning.

On Thursday, 29 October 2026, officials led by Manoj Kumar Singh, chief executive officer of the State Transformation Commission, inspected the proposed data centre cluster site inside the BIDA area in Jhansi. A review meeting on the project's development and implementation followed in the hall of the Commissioner's (Mandal Ayukt) office in Jhansi.

What comes next

The state plans a Ground Breaking Ceremony in December 2026 to launch the projects. The fifth edition, known as GBC 5.0, is to be held in Lucknow. One report says Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate it, though this has not been confirmed in the official schedule as reported.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to make sure all approvals meet their timelines so that projects can move quickly. For BIDA, the next steps include completing land acquisition, finishing sector and zonal planning, and turning the Activation Area's approved infrastructure budget into construction on the ground.

Jobs and local concerns

Commentary on the Bundelkhand push raises a practical question: whether investment commitments will translate into local jobs and livelihoods. Bundelkhand has historically had limited industrial employment, and the proposals will need to be built, staffed and operated before residents see the benefits.

For people in Jhansi and surrounding villages, the most immediate changes are land acquisition and the building of roads, water and power networks in the Activation Area. Those who depend on the land should watch how compensation and acquisition timelines are handled as the December groundbreaking approaches.
